Care of New Piercings

Always wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning a new piercing. One of the best ways is to clean your piercing with a clean cotton bud, that way you do not come into direct contact with the fresh piercing, giving it less chance of cross-contamination. Wash around the piercing site using solutions recommended by us or your body piercer, two or three times a day.

Do not pull, push, twist or move your new jewellery at all during the healing period this means do not touch the new piercing with your hands, it’s very easy to pass germs on to an open wound. Jewellery may be moved during cleaning to get at hidden areas. You will find a little discharge from nearly all piercings this must be cleaned away daily.

Should you have any concerns during healing ring your piercer at any time. A simple call could put you at rest, you may have to return to see the piercer so they can visibility see the piercing, this is formality only, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Care of Established Piercings

Healed piercings do not require a great deal of care, other than normal cleaning during washing and bathing. This does not mean you do not have to look after them; you still have to take care of them as for instance wearing tight jeans over navel piercings could cause it to fracture, so take care.

However, jewellery should be removed regularly for cleaning. In the case of stainless steel jewellery, we recommend removal for cleaning at approx. 3-month intervals, titanium at 6-month intervals, gold at 2-3 month intervals. These are approx as all people are individual. If you have not previously removed your jewellery and are unsure about doing so, please feel free to consult us at any time.
