Started his tattoo life at an early age watching his uncle tattooing in his kitchen, after his uncle had already done a long hard day at work. These are just a few of his memories from an early age so bear with us it gets better!

"This was in the 70’s, about the time tattooing came to the high street where we could all see it, even in the 70’s in was still a male thing not like it is today. Although just a kid at the time I could see that things were changing. My uncle used to take me with him when he visited other tattooist like Ronny Akers, George Bone & Jack Zeek, who all had some influence in the way my studio is today. "

Things moved on, Alan joined his first tattoo club in the 1980’s- the tattoo club of Japan & started working in his uncle’s shop, Dino's, at weekends. Those of you who have been in the tattoo game for some time will recognize the name Terry Dean. When Terry started his tattoo career there were very few tattooist’s about; George Bone, Jack Zeek & Ronny Akers being just a few, these stuck with me from an early age. Terry’s shop was based in the town of Hayes, Middlesex. Terry moved from Hayes some 20 years ago to Weston-Super-Mere where he can be found to this day still working under the name Dino’s.

Anyway getting back, after many years on the move working with many different people around the globe trying many different styles, absorbing as much information & knowledge as he could Alan came back to Engl& to make plans to start his own studio. Plans were under way but cash was short so it was back to work for Alan. After a bit of ducking & diving, working here & there, back & forth to America & Mexico,  he had a little bit of luck. The World famous Dave Diamond, a close friend of Alan's was due to go for a heart operation. Dave asked Alan if he would be interested in helping his son Dale to run the very busy Tattoo Land & so the story goes....

Knowing Alan was setting up a studio of his own they knuckled down & worked for a good year. One year later the lease was signed & Alan moved back to Middlesex, trying to get close to where he started. Rayners Lane became the birthplace of Tattoo UK opening on June 1st 2000 as they were working at the Slough Tattoo Convention.
